Overview

Middleport is one of two formulation plants for FMC Agricultural Solutions in the US and play a key role in supporting the business growth. 

Responsibilities

Interface with Engineering and Operations to assist in new product launches. Develops and implements a quality assurance program for the facility and drives the use of statistical process control to monitor critical to quality parameters focused on improving cost of quality. Directs activities concerned with development, application, and maintenance of the quality standard. Supervise the laboratory staff of currently 7 employees.

  • Oversee the analytical lab operation(4 employees) for seamless operation during 24 hr coverage.
  • Trains the production staff in updated work instructions and procedures to ensure adequate QA processes are followed and to build awareness.
  • Identifies quality improvement parameters by identifying statistical methods relevant to manufacturing processes
  • Establishes statistical confidence by identifying sample size and acceptable error; determining levels of confidence.
  • Uses statistical tools and methodology for evaluation of data that help in improving right the first time quality
  • Works toward improving quality checks to improve process cycle times
  • Ensure that appropriate policies and procedures are followed in the lab, including, but not limited to, measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability.
  • Create and maintain company quality documentation, such as quality manuals, quality procedures, etc.
  • Manage suppliers’ performance and conduct audits.
  • Develop and initiate standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation. Administer ISO9001 procedures and work instructions. Evaluate precision and accuracy of measurement equipment as well as calibration requirements.
  • Evaluates and initiates improvement ideas, for example: How to improve cycle time on sample results to improve operational cycle times.
  • Develop and implement methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devise methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Support Quality Inspectors to ensure that products and processes comply with the relevant requirements of the quality management system.
  • Conduct audits, including closing out audit findings, creating audits finding reports and determine proper corrective and preventive actions
  • Leads Root Cause Analysis, and analyzes failure, and leads corrective and preventive action to respond to customer complaints. This includes working with production, sales and purchasing, as well as going to parts suppliers if applicable.
  • Leads the plant quality process (QAR) for raw material and process changes to minimize quality and EHS risks from those process changes.
  • Participates in MOC (Management of Change) process for quality reviews.
  • Closely supports plants during new product launches
  • Ensures a competent work force is maintained and properly trained on the process and systems, and supports safe and effective operations.

Required Education

B.S. Degree, Chemical Engineering, Quality Engineering or Chemistry

 

Qualifications

5 Years Chemical Lab Experience in Manufacturing, Statistical Process Control, and Quality Management Systems

The qualified candidate must exercise continuous leadership to focus department efforts on priorities and deal with constantly shifting priorities. An employee in this position works in an environment in which safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. Strict adherence to Corporate and/or Plant policies, rules, and regulations in these areas is required. A commitment to carrying out the Company's Quality Policy is required. The qualified candidate in this position must focus on customers' expectations, prevent problems, and strive for continuous improvement resulting in improved results for themselves, customers and other employees.

Special Notes on Qualifications:

  • Analyzing Information using SPC tools , Reporting Research Results, Technical Understanding, Promoting Process Improvement, Developing Standards, Managing Processes, Manufacturing Methods and Procedures, Quality Engineering
  • Experience in SAP, Microsoft, and ISO 9001, LIMS data mgmt systems
  • Root Cause analysis experience and training
