Overview

A laboratory position that engages in a variety of benchtop chemical manipulations, including performing routine chemical reactions and analytical techniques with organic and inorganic compounds as part of the Global Analytical Services group at FMC’s Bessemer City, North Carolina site.

Responsibilities

EHS

  • Ensure safe operation of laboratory processes and value safety over all other goals
  • Work with hazardous and reactive materials in a safe manner
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Participate in the site’s numerous safety programs (incident reporting, safe behavior observations, training activities, etc.)

 Business Support

  • Responsible for performing routine chemical manipulations in glassware
  • Responsible for the operation of multiple analytical instruments (e.g., ICP, GC, titrators)
  • Responsible for learning various techniques from senior lab personnel
  • Responsible for following written procedures in an accurate, precise, and reproducible manner
  • Responsible for recording laboratory testing results through written and/or electronic documentation in a systematic fashion
  • Responsible for the use of common computer programs (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, email)

Required Education

Education and/or Experience:                                                                 

A bachelor's degree in a science discipline is required. (Chemistry preferred)

 

 

Skills:

  • Minimum of two years of laboratory experience.  Must have basic computer skills and use Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Uses the computer to accurately enter information and data into FMC business systems (e.g., LIMS/LQM, SAP, Sharepoint, safety incident management)
  • Uses effective oral and written communication. Uses MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and VMX to communicate all work instructions
  • Maintains flexibility and enthusiasm to work on a variety of projects in different areas
  • Works well on a team
  • Can multi-task and meet all deadlines
  • Uses scientific method; is a logical problem solver

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception. The employee may occasionally be required to don a self-contained breathing apparatus and/or full face respirator.

 

Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
