Overview

The Plant Cost Accountant will provide critical support to the controlling function of the manufacturing plant. In general terms, this position will support the financial statements through postings, reconciliation, analysis, and reporting of information relevant to the business as well as support of the forecasting and budget process.

Responsibilities

General Accounting/Reporting

  • Verifies and posts details of business transactions, such as funds received and disbursed, and totals accounts to ledgers databases.
  • Reconciles general ledger accounts with various registers and reports.
  • Extracts general ledger information.
  • Assists with forecasts and budgets.
  • Assists employees by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
  • Completes the annual survey of manufacturing and annual business interruption reports for the Bessemer City Plant.
  • Supplies external and internal audit staff with requested documents.
  • Assists Plant Controller with ad-hoc analysis and with development of annual operating budget. 

Cost Accounting

  • Assists Plant Controller in submitting forecast for Volume, PPV, & Efficiency variances monthly.
  • Assists Plant Controller in driving Labor Models & Capacity Models for each circuit.
  • Calculate and analyze price and quantity variances for key raw materials.
  • Calculate and analyze material efficiency variances for all product lines.
  • Assists with preparation of standard costs.
  • Coordinate the validation of Bills of Materials (BOMs) and Work Center routers with Schedulers and Operations personnel (TA’s).
  • Analyze work center costs and capabilities with assistance of Plant Engineering.
  • Drill down through work center costs to understand specific product/process cost streams.Inventory & Capital Management
  •  Drives monthly cycle counts in each area and identifies systematic issues to resolve with operations.
  • Assists controller in identifying obsolete and slow-moving inventory and non-productive/idled or retired capital assets.
  • Supports the annual LIFO valuation process.
  • Assists Plant controller track project spending and capitalization.
  • Responsible for initiating Authorizations for Expenditure [AFE] approval process for capital and communicating AFE approvals to plant.
  • Responsible for communicating delinquent projects, closing projects to fixed assets & retiring related assets.

Inventory & Capital Management

  • Drives monthly cycle counts in each area and identifies systematic issues to resolve with operations.
  • Assists controller in identifying obsolete and slow-moving inventory and non-productive/idled or retired capital assets.
  • Supports the annual LIFO valuation process.
  • Assists Plant controller track project spending and capitalization.
  • Responsible for initializing initiating Authorizations for Expenditure [AFE]  approval process for capital and communicating AFE approvals to plant.

Responsible Care Management Systems (RCMS)  

  • Understands, supports, participates, and strictly adheres to site standards, policies and procedures relevant to safety, industrial hygiene, security/CTPAT requirements and environmental.
  • Conforms to safety standards.
  • Promotes the belief that all jobs can be performed safely and that no job is worth doing that would risk the health, safety, or welfare of the plant employees or community.
  • Provides input to the area’s annual Safety Plan and promotes to plant safety policies and procedures.
  • Assists investigation teams and selects appropriate corrective actions to improve safety and environmental performance in the area.
  • Actively participates in Area Safety Committees and Behavior-Based Site Safety program.

Required Education

Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  Needs to enjoy going out into the plant to solve problems and build relationships with operations.

 

Education and/or Experience:  Bachelor degree in Finance or Accounting. MBA or CPA preferred. Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Cost Accountant in an SAP environment. 2-5 years’ experience in a plant accounting environment is required, with at least 2 years in a cost accountant role. Strong Microsoft Excel capability is required.
