Company Overview

The successful candidate will primarily provide support to global hazardous materials compliance issues and secondarily provide support to domestic logistics operations.  The Specialist will work in conjunction with Logistics Manager to provide direction to ensure corporate-wide compliance with laws affecting domestic and international commerce.  This position provides expertise concerning shipping descriptions, and compliance with domestic and foreign transportation regulations.  This is a demanding role in a time sensitive environment requiring extensive knowledge in hazardous materials regulations and commerce.

Responsibilities

Compliance :

 

Hazardous Materials

  • Ensure shipping descriptions and classifications of products are accurate and up to date in SAP.
  • Advise US and foreign related entities on classification issues
  • Advise shipping locations, import broker and export forwarder, and other third parties of proper hazardous materials classifications
  • Ensure required hazmat training is conducted with FMC. personnel at plants and other locations to be in compliance with DOT, IMDG, and IATA requirements
  • Ensure records for hazmat training are up-to-date
  • Evaluate SDS’s to ensure transportation information contained therein is correct
  • Ensure packaging and labeling of hazardous materials is appropriate for FMC shipments
  • Ensure and provide advice for labeling of hazardous materials
  • Working with the FMC Regulatory Group, advise/monitor the importation of samples (many of which are hazardous materials) from global sources.
  • Provide support to Global Regulatory Group on imports of hazardous materials

 

Logistics Operations:

  • Assist in the domestic movement of goods from port of entry to formulation facility to customer.
  • Work with shipping locations to ensure delivery of shipments to plants, warehouses, and customers in a timely manner to meet shipping deadlines and customer requirements
  • Provide support on transportation of purchased product
  • Establish rates with carriers ensuring that service and budget requirements are met
  • Monitor domestic carrier performance and report as required

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field 

Qualifications

 

  • 5-7 years of hazardous materials transportation experience, including the classification of products for domestic and international transportation via motor, water and air
  • Current hazardous materials certification for DOT, IMDG, IATA
  • 3-5 years of domestic freight experience
  • Computer skills including SAP
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Strong analytical, communication and organizational skills
  • Chemical industry (hazardous materials) experience (preferred agricultural chemicals) or regulated products
  • Compliance with federal (Customs, EPA, etc.), state, foreign rules and regulations, DOT, IATA, IMDG
  • Self starter who takes the initiative and gets things done
