    Within the Corporate Controller’s team, Technical Accounting and Reporting (TA&R) is the authority within FMC on Technical Accounting and Reporting matters. TA&R serves as an oversight entity, helping various FMC functions in aligning business and financial reporting requirements. As such, TA&R works closely together with business leaders, FP&A leaders, functional areas such as legal, tax and treasury, consolidations/reporting team and Accounting Operations to assist with the delivery of quality internal and external financial reporting. The External Reporting and Technical Accounting Senior Accountant will report to the Manager of External Reporting and Technical Accounting.


    This position will assist with the preparation of external (SEC) reporting (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) as well as ensure the timely completion of all supporting documentation, preparation of footnote disclosure and supporting work papers and compliance with internal controls over financial reporting. The role also ensures financial statements are accurate and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as ensure appropriateness and execution of company accounting policies and procedures. This position will also be responsible for certain elements of financial reporting and disclosure of our benefit plan reporting for defined contribution plans and defined benefit plans including the annual reporting requirements such as the Form 5500.


    Major Responsibility Areas:

    External Reporting Responsibilities

    • Assist with preparation and compliance of SEC reporting materials (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 11-K) and manage use of Workiva tool to ensure accurate and consistent financial information throughout the materials
    • Prepare and review documentation to support Form 10-Q, 10-K, etc.
    • Preparation of assigned accounting-related sections of other SEC filings such as registration statements, offering memoranda and equity prospectuses while assisting the Treasury department and the Director and Supervising Senior of External Reporting and Technical Accounting Research in other aspects of these filings
    • Assist in preparation of audit committee presentation
    • Assist the Supervising Senior, External Reporting and Technical Accounting in monitoring the integrity of controls over the external reporting process through checklists and other methods to ensure compliance with the regulations resulting from SOX
    • Assist in technical research as necessary
    • Coordinate audit request with external auditors, internal auditors and compliance
    • Perform the printing process (Form 10-K)
    • Assist with filing with the SEC via EDGAR including review of XBRL coding
    • Assist Investor Relations, Corporate Accounting and the Director and Supervising Senior of External Reporting and Technical Accounting in the preparation of earnings releases, including:
      • Reviewing the narrative description of results by business to conform with the MD&A
      • Reviewing the financial schedules to help ensure compliance with past presentation and current U.S. GAAP requirements

    Benefit Accounting

    • Assist with the annual financial statements for the FMC Retirement Plan (FMC Saving Plan, Define Benefit Plan and Form 11-K).
    • Assist with the filing of Form 5500 for the FMC Retirement Plan (FMC Savings Plan, Define Benefit Plan and Medical and Welfare Plan.) 

    Other Areas

    • Assist on special projects as needed as directed either by the VP, Corporate Controller and the Director, External Reporting and Technical Accounting
    • Perform control activities to ensure SOX compliance with financial reporting.

    Financial Control

    • Maintain objective evidence for Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist on developing corrective actions, when required.




    Required Education

    Required Education

    • Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
    • CPA a plus or actively seeking
    • Big 4 Experience preferred



    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in public accounting or similar experience.
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization.
    • Solid technical accounting knowledge, with proficiency in evaluating contingencies
    • Working knowledge of SAP a plus.
    • BCS Consolidation tool experience a plus, but not required
    • BPC Consolidation tool experience a plus, but not required
    • Excellent Excel skills
    • Workiva experience a plus, but not required
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with non-accountants
    • Demonstrate understanding of US GAAP financial statement and SEC reporting
    • Demonstrate ability to work under time pressure
