    Overview

    FMC Global Regulatory Sciences is looking for a highly-motivated individual to work in our Investigative Sciences Group. The successful candidate will be working with a high level of independence on projects relating to the discovery, characterization, optimization and development of crop protection chemicals with guidance from a Senior Scientist. Working in an interdisciplinary team environment, the successful candidate will have the technical and analytical experience necessary to support a laboratory program to understand fundamental agrochemical dissipation processes such as degradation in soil and plants, hydrolysis, volatilization, and sorption to assess their efficacy and environmental safety. This work may involve radioactive tracer methodology along with the need for degradate profiling and identification using appropriate analytical techniques. This knowledge is then applied to compound synthesis strategy, candidate optimization, and eventual product registration. 

    Responsibilities

    • Conduct routine experiments in a safe manner, interpret data and troubleshoot analytical problems with minimal supervision.
    • Collect, extract and analyze soil, water and plant samples.
    • Maintain detailed records of conducted experiments.
    • Use a variety of computer programs for data management, analysis and report writing with proficiency using common software (e.g. MS Excel, MS Word).
    • Assist in the maintenance of analytical instruments and laboratories ensuring a safe working environment.
    • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of colleagues within the Research and Development organization to facilitate the discovery and development of novel and innovative crop protection products.

    Required Education

    B.S. degree in a scientific discipline with a strong emphasis on chemistry, biochemistry or biology, with demonstrated ability to perform chemical analyses, extraction and separation, and instrumental analyses including 2+ years of laboratory experience.

    Qualifications

    • Demonstrated ability to learn and effectively utilize analytical instrumentation including HPLC, GC, and LC/MS.
    • Experience in biological assays and analytical method development.
    • Strong interpersonal skills including networking ability with the desire to contribute towards team success
    • Demonstrated ability to organize data in an easily retrievable manner.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Good computer skills.
    • Excellent project management skills.

    Additional Beneficial Experience 

    • Experience or understanding of the principals of chemical and physical property determinations.
    • Understanding of abiotic and biotic degradation or metabolism processes in soil, water, plants and animals.
    • Automation of analyses, familiarity with robotics.
    • Experience in evaluating formulations for impact on efficacy, residual activity and improving performance including encapsulation technology.
    • Basic understanding of statistical analysis using programs such as Minitab and Prism.
