    In this role, you will have the overall responsibility for leading the global development of technically feasible controlled crystallization processes for synthesis intermediates and/or final products.

    As an inherent part of this work, identification and characterization of polymorph structures is also expected.


    Maintenance and continuous improvement of the crystallization laboratory(ies) equipment will also be part of your responsibility. Beyond daily support to directly involved laboratory technicians, continuous coaching of people involved in process development/optimization across the organization is expected.


    You will be joining a very experienced team of Chemical Engineers, Ph.D. Chemists and laboratory technicians working with process optimization and development.


    You will have interactions and collaborations with multiple parts of the global organization and the development and competency leadership of a strong working relationship with all relevant parts of the technical FMC organization is important.


    • Development of kinetically controlled crystallizations of key process intermediates and active ingredients
    • Identification and documentation of key process intermediates and active ingredients polymorph structures
    • General support in terms of solid state material characterization (AI, as well as, in the framework of formulation development)
    • Trouble shooting support in relation to operational issues related to processing of solid state material e.g. filtration and drying
    • While this role is specific to crystallization expertise, the participation on pipeline development project teams may also occur.

    Required Education

    Masters or Ph.D. degree in chemistry or chemical engineering and min 5 years of experience working in an R&D/process development environment


    • Fundamental understanding of crystallographic science
    • Fundamental understanding and knowledge of technical chemistry
    • Basic understanding of physical chemistry and thermodynamics
    • Experienced in applied math
    • Basic understanding of organic chemistry including applied chemistry
    • Fluency in English is required, orally as well as in writing

    Further information:

    • You report to the Director of Process Chemistry and Engineering Development.
    • This role is based at the FMC Stine Research Center in Newark, Delaware. There will be a 4-6 month training and handover period planned from our current position holder at our Manufacturing Site at Harboøre Tange, Denmark.
    • Expected business travel is around 10%.
    • Applications will be reviewing on an on-going basis until the role is filled.
