FMC Agricultural Solutions is an R&D-based business, dependent upon the introduction of new products to deliver a competitive advantage in the agrochemical industry. Our business has a robust pipeline of new products that anticipate our customers’ needs and contribute to their long-term prosperity while advancing agriculture. The Process Development organization employs synthetic organic chemists to achieve its mission to develop the technology necessary to commercialize new agricultural active ingredients.

FMC Agricultural Solutions has an opening for a motivated Synthetic Organic Process Chemist at their global research center in Newark, Delaware.  We are seeking a Ph.D. chemist with strong grounding in synthetic organic chemistry. Candidates will have a solid knowledge of synthetic organic methodologies, and spectroscopic identification techniques. The ability to collaborate effectively with an interdisciplinary team of scientists is essential, as successful candidates will work closely with other synthetic chemists, analytical chemists and chemical engineers.

They also develop an understanding of corporate, business and functional needs so as to align their work with overall strategies and objectives. The successful candidate will conduct a hands-on laboratory-based program to develop commercially viable manufacturing processes as part of an international cross-functional team of process chemists, analytical chemists and engineers.

    Required Education

Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry with strong background in synthetic organic chemistry or methodology development is required. Further post-doctoral experience is preferred.

    • Solid knowledge of traditional carbocyclic and heterocyclic chemistry and modern synthetic methodologies, and characterization techniques (e.g., NMR, MS/MS, LC/MS, GC/MS & IR) are essential.
    • High level of creativity and productivity with strong synthetic chemistry problem solving skills.
    • The ability to effectively collaborate with international interdisciplinary teams of scientists and to capture and maintain appropriate records and effectively communicate results is essential.
