    Overview

    FMC is seeking experienced Formulation Associates to work in the pilot scale facility. Working under the direction of a senior chemist or engineer, with limited supervision, this individual will prepare in a pilot facility novel, proprietary crop protection chemicals for Global Research & Development field trials and execute process development studies in support of engineering. Laboratory work primarily involves the assembly, operation and cleaning of pilot scale equipment (e.g. mixers, blenders, homogenizers, extruders) along with limited physical/chemical characterization (e.g. viscosity, particle size, wet sieve) of the laboratory prototypes. Support the evaluation of new technologies for the organization. 

    Responsibilities

    The individual in this position may be given additional responsibility for assignments such as active ingredient characterization, powder rheometry, execution of lean laboratory principles, technology transfer or manufacturing support. The person in this position shall demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with peers, senior staff, and management.

    • Prepare pilot-scale liquid and solid formulations
    • Execute process development studies in accordance with study plan
    • Write standard operating procedures and participate in safety reviews
    • Plan and organize activities within assigned responsibilities
    • Troubleshoot and provide suggestions for improving and possible next steps
    • Execute tasks within agreed-upon timelines
    • Prompt communication of results to stakeholders
    • Document scale-up experiments in a batch sheet
    • Comply with all FMC, site, and departmental HSE and GLP guidelines and regulations
    • Help train new technical staff relative to pilot procedures

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or engineering discipline with at least 3 years experience in chemical laboratory or pilot plant setting is required

    Qualifications

    • Strong communication skills; need to be able to clearly present ideas, experiments and results.
    • Strong organizatinal and planning skills. 
    • Familiar with pilot scale operations.
    • Diligently attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks. Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a flexible environment with multiple competing priorities
    • Demonstrated track record of working independently and manage their own time.
    • A good team player that can cooperate with team members by helping and sharing ideas and working together to accomplish team goals.
    • Experience in working to meet possible tight schedule. Able to work weekends, if needed.
    • Work safely according to FMC policies, procedures and practices.
    • Full range of motion and the ability to lift 50 pounds.
    • Basic computer skills; proficient in MS Word and Excel.
    • Proven mechanical aptitude.
