    This position will be responsible for the direct material spend, including raw materials, packaging, and energy costs, used in its manufacturing around the world.  This position requires the incumbent to act as a strategic business partner, to develop relationships with suppliers, to maintain subject matter expertise in relevant markets, to be conversant on emerging technologies and more. 


    Keys to Success

This is a highly visible role and will require the successful candidate to “hit the ground running” and make an impact within the first few months. You will be expected to have the technical credibility and leadership presence to establish relationships with executive leaders of our suppliers while optimizing Lithium's value. You will need impeccable integrity and ethics, an entrepreneurial spirit, results orientation, and strong problem-solving skills. 


    You will be the global category leader within the growing procurement function. The category spend will increase each year as the Lithium business expands its manufacturing capabilities. You will also be responsible for any tolling contracts the Lithium business decides to enter into. You will be responsible for defining an overall procurement strategy and opportunity analysis for the direct material spend. Several of the key raw materials are single or sole sourced, adding to the complexity of managing this category. You will be a key partner to Global Supply Chain as they manage and navigate the supply chain planning process. In addition, you will be expected to partner with our procurement team members in the APAC, Latam and EMEA regions to ensure sourcing strategies are fully executed and capture the benefits as defined in terms of total cost of ownership.  The qualified candidate will have the technical expertise and skills required to negotiate contracts and deliver the best value to Lithium while ensuring reliability of supply, quality and service.


    Additional responsibilities include:

    • Define and execute a strategy for each of the strategic raw materials
    • Develop market intelligence on supply base worldwide, monitor key events that may result in a security of supply risk (natural disasters, force majeure, transportation issues, etc)
    • Work closely with the legal department to author, edit, maintain, and amend contracts
    • Develop price control strategies based on total cost of ownership and product life cycle which include analysis of manufacturing process, understanding raw materials cost structure and factors that impact their cost
    • Achieve lowest overall cost position utilizing the global supply market, seek advantages by exploiting price differential in international markets and employing negotiation strategies to achieve specified business goals
    • Work in collaboration with R&D, QA/QC, manufacturing, supply chain and regulatory to qualify new sources of supply and to seek value engineering opportunities to lower total cost of products
    • Monitor key suppliers to ensure compliance with governmental regulations and continued compliance with product specification, and quantity and delivery commitments

    Other important skills include:

    • Strong project management skills with an ability to facilitate change while leading cross-functional teams to qualify and to implement new sources of supply
    • Operate effectively in a fast-paced environment where you will be challenged to deliver on your commitment to results that support the top line and bottom line growth
    • Able to travel up to 20% of the time including internationally to meet suppliers, engage with business leaders and be present at our manufacturing plant locations
    • Navigate in a multicultural environment across a wide range of time zones
    • Provide high levels of overall customer satisfaction by developing and leveraging an innovative and high-performance supply base

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required; degree in engineering discipline and/or MBA desired


    • Possess 10-12 years of experience in Procurement or Commercial roles with a successful track record in developing and executing supplier strategies in the direct materials category
    • Expertise in contracts management, either in Procurement or Commercial contexts
    • International experience strongly preferred
    • Demonstrated skills in working effectively across business lines and partnering with the businesses and departments to meet objectives
    • Strong negotiation skills
    • Solid interpersonal and communications skills
    • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including a demonstrated ability to analyze complex pricing proposals and formulate a strategic plan
