    The Lithium Technology Center provides technical support for business level projects and initiatives.  The mission of the Technology Center is to maintain process technology excellence and ensure a strong technical foundation to enable:

    • Safe and reliable manufacture of products that meet our performance requirements
    • Quick and accurate response to business and customer needs
    • Effective execution of capital projects, product scale-ups, and process changes
    • Continuous improvement in process safety, product quality, and capacity


    The Technical Center Global Improvement Leader (Global Butyllithium and Process Safety) will have direct responsibility for improvement engineers who are imbedded in the manufacturing sites for the Global Butyllithium sites (Regulated in the US, UK, China and India) and oversight of the Lithium Business Process Safety Professionals.  As a member of the business Process Safety Network, the position will also collaborate with the Lithium Process Safety Steward (SME) to execute the Lithium Process Safety Plan for the entire business.

    This position requires significant travel or temporary living arrangements, often for extended periods, to individual project sites. FMC can be flexible about travel, living, and relocation arrangements for the ideal candidate.

    *This position can be located either in Philadelphia, PA or in the Charlotte, NC area*

    Some detailed responsibilities are as follows:


    • Drive EHS initiatives at sites of primary responsibility
    1. Drive implementation of the FMC process safety standard and ensure continued compliance.
    2. Promote a culture that all jobs can be performed safely.  No job that would risk the health, safety, or welfare of our employees is worth doing.
    3. Meet commitments to safety and environmental reporting and improvement initiatives.
    4. Support the Responsible Care and sustainability initiatives
    • Drive technology improvement plans across areas of responsibility
    1. Develop and document process technology information.
    2. Develop procedures and protocols for the transfer of new processes into manufacturing and continuously improve existing processes.
    3. Participate in programs for cross-plant standardization of processing equipment.
    4. Address chronic production issues and process problems
    • Drive technical excellence
    1. Stay informed of big picture initiatives and provide input and implementation support for defined area.
    2. Collaborate with Ag Solution R&D team on current and new technology development
    3. Develop and maintain strong relationships with all internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Site Operations, Site Engineering, Site and Corporate EHS, Corporate Engineering, Finance, consultants and vendors).
    4. Attract and retain strong technical resources, support the growth and development of technical team members, provide input for succession planning.
    5. Drive standardization of process and technology when appropriate
    6. Coordinate and prioritize efforts of internal process owners and subject matter experts in defined area.  Deploy right people to right actions.
    7. Remain current on industry best practices, technology improvements and available resources to ensure fully leveraging knowledge that exists outside of FMC.
    8. Communicate clearly and informs Associate Technical Director of delays and barriers in a timely manner to allow for appropriate action.
    • Provide overall project management support, tracking, and reporting responsibilities for process improvement projects and some CapEx projects within assigned areas.
    1. Create detailed project timelines.
    2. Identify milestones and interdependencies.  Build communication plans.
    3. Collect updates and communicate issues and decision status.
    4. Intervene as the Project Manager for key projects which need immediate redirection or support.  Call and run weekly or daily meetings until projects have returned to stable condition.
    5. Deliver results and bring projects in safely, on-time, and on-budget

    Required Education

    BS in Chemical Engineering; MS preferred 


    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a chemical environment in a continuous process experience
    • Strong safety leadership and process safety management experience is a MUST.
    • Competence in engineering fundamentals. Ability to interpret and apply broad basis principles, theories and concepts.  Extensive knowledge and expertise on established technologies.
    • Strong leadership, problem solving, prioritization, and risk based management skills.
    • Data based decision making and strong results driven/action orientated approach to leadership.
    • Strategic agility with foresight and the ability to create alternate plans
    • A demonstrated history of bringing projects in safely, on time and on budget. General understanding of economic factors affecting the business. 
    • The ability to effectively present at both informal and formal training settings
    • Effective team building skills with an operating style that fosters high expectations, open dialogue, creates a strong sense of team, inspires and motivates
    • International experience and bi-lingual capabilities a plus
