    The Global Total Rewards Director will be integral to defining and implementing the vision for an enterprise-wide total rewards strategy. This role will be responsible for leading the Human Resources total reward strategic planning, design, implementation, regulatory compliance, communication and administration of all corporate-wide compensation and benefits programs to support the organization’s business strategy and objectives.


    The Global Total Rewards Director reports to the Vice President, Chief Human Resource Officer. It is a hands-on position responsible for leading a team of compensation and benefits professionals who are responsible for global implementation, maintaining compliance and administration of benefits and compensation programs to attract and retain top talent. Direct reports are the Director, Corporate Compensation, Senior Manager Global Employee Benefits, as well as several compensation and benefits resources in the regions.



    • Contribute to the development of the Total Rewards strategy across all businesses and functions in collaboration with others; ensure internal equity and external market competitiveness.
    • Develop compensation strategy and direct the design, implementation and communication of all management and executive compensation plans/policies. 
    • Work with external consultant to the Compensation Committee on the design and implementation of executive compensation programs; responsible for development of agenda, materials and presentation for Committee meetings.
    • Work with external consultant in preparation of the FMC’s annual proxy, working closely with Finance and Legal; including the development of the Compensation Discussion and Analysis and related tables.
    • Lead total compensation strategy for the company by recommending standardized programs, sales and commission plans, variable compensation designs, short-term bonus programs and long-term incentive programs.
    • Provide leadership, guidance and direction while ensuring the deployment of the company’s compensation programs including annual salary planning/merit increases process, salary structures, variable pay and other incentive programs, ensuring alignment with company’s goals, initiatives and budget guidelines. 
    • Provide counsel to HR business partners, business managers and talent acquisition regarding compensation challenges and issues, including evaluating new positions, job bands, grade levels, job descriptions, promotions and transfers.
    • Advise on compensation-related matters, partnering with the HR leadership team and business leaders as needed.
    • Ensure appropriate financial controls are in place for all incentive-based compensation programs, evaluating and analyzing cost implications of current and proposed plans.
    • Provide leadership and direction around participation in market data initiatives, evaluating and preparing competitive benchmark data analysis as required.
    • Work in partnership with external vendors/brokers and consultants in the compensation and benefit areas to ensure the company is positioned competitively and stays current on market trends and industry changes. 
    • Develop and execute a comprehensive communication strategy for compensation and benefit programs and identify opportunities to better enable the company to improve employee engagement, facilitate proactive and effective messaging to educate employees as well as support the company’s growth and strategic plan. 
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing compensation and benefit programs, policies and guidelines and ensure they are market competitive, cost effective, aligned with corporate goals and in compliance with company policies, federal legislation and other government and regulatory requirements.
    • Assist the HRBPs with work council and union negotiations relative to health and welfare benefit plan designs in support of the overall corporate and employee and labor strategy. 
    • Support HR team with implementation of HR programs, projects and initiatives.
    • Partner with HR and Legal to ensure compliance with all benefits, and wage and hour federal and state laws.
    • Develop health and welfare benefit strategy and direct the design, implementation, communication and cost control of health and welfare benefit programs for employees and retirees. 
    • Manage an extensive benefits budget, monitoring actual expenses of plans; build partnerships within finance to ensure accuracy and timeliness of accruals.
    • Partner with HR and Payroll to ensure systems are aligned to support benefits and compensation plans.
    • Collaborate with HR business partners and business leaders to understand their challenges and hot issues related to compensation and benefits.

    Required Education

    Bachelor’s in Business, HR discipline or equivalent field. Master’s degree preferred. CCP Certification/CBP Certification preferred.


    • Extensive experience in total rewards (15+ years); broad compensation and benefits expertise with a mix of operational, plan design, policy development and strategic experience.
    • Strong experience with implementing and leading total reward strategy initiatives across business lines, including management of executive-level relationships.
    • Executive compensation experience.
    • Experience of working closely with Board of Directors’ Compensation Committee on all matters related to Executive Compensation in a public company, including overall competitive compensation positioning, short and long-term incentive design and equity management. Demonstrated ability to prepare and present materials in a clear and concise manner.
    • Strong relationship building abilities and partnership skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization and achieve results with a global team.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to quickly synthesize data and develop recommendations for senior leaders. Ability to facilitate strong partnerships across diverse stakeholders.
    • Ability to effectively monitor industry and regulatory activities.
