    Responsibilities

    Within the Corporate Controller’s team, Technical Accounting and Reporting (TA&R) is the authority within FMC on Technical Accounting and Reporting matters. TA&R serves as an oversight entity, helping various FMC functions in aligning business and financial reporting requirements. As such, TA&R works closely together with business leaders, FP&A leaders, functional areas such as legal, tax and treasury, consolidations/reporting team and Accounting Operations to assist with the delivery of quality internal and external financial reporting. The Senior Manager, External Reporting & Technical Accounting is a part of this team and will report to the Livent Controller.

     

    This role demands strong technical accounting background, a high-level of financial and analytical skills across multiple areas of responsibility, including all GAAP matters, and excellent communication skills. Experience with a wide variety technical accounting matters as well as SEC and related regulatory filings and other compliance procedures is also critical to the role.

     

    This position will manage the preparation of external (SEC) reporting (Forms 10-K, 10-Q, 8-K) as well as ensure the timely completion of all supporting documentation, preparation of footnote disclosure and supporting work papers. The role also ensures financial statements are accurate and in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as ensure appropriateness and execution of company accounting policies and procedures.

     

    This position will be responsible for the accounting requirements associated with stock based compensation accounting as well as all external reporting requirements in these areas.

     

    This position will be involved in the adoption of the new leasing accounting standard as well as other upcoming standards requiring adoption. The position will also ensure compliance across the company and have key responsibilities for certain global technical accounting matters including the lead on developing and maintaining internal financial accounting policies. The Senior Manager of External Reporting and Technical Accounting will be involved in purchase accounting and valuation of the acquired assets associated with any future acquisitions.

     

    The position is also responsible for managing the timely and effective research and implementation of any changes in both accounting and disclosure arising from pronouncements of various rule making bodies, including the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB), the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the SEC.

     

    This position requires very strong personnel management skills, versatility, technical accounting, planning, interpersonal and communications skills, as effective interaction with senior management is a critical to success. In addition, this position will be a key interface between the operations, Corporate staff (tax, treasury, HR, etc.), Public Relations, Investor Relations as well as senior management.

     

    External Reporting Responsibilities

    • Manage SEC reporting materials (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, 11-K)
    • Prepare and review documentation to support Form 10-Q, 10-K, etc.
    • Help manage the preparation of assigned accounting-related sections of other SEC filings such as registration statements, offering memoranda and equity prospectuses
    • Assist in preparation of audit committee presentation
    • Perform analysis of the balance sheet and income statement to ensure completeness and accuracy of global results
    • Assist in monitoring the integrity of controls over the external reporting process through checklists and other methods to ensure compliance with the regulations resulting from SOX
    • Assist in technical research as necessary
    • Coordinate audit request with external auditors, internal auditors and compliance
    • Perform the printing process (Form 10-K)
    • Filing with the SEC via EDGAR and knowledge of XBRL coding
    • Assist Investor Relations, Corporate Accounting and the Director, External Reporting and Technical Accounting in the preparation of earnings releases, including:
      • Reviewing the narrative description of results by business to conform with the MD&A
      • Reviewing the financial schedules to help ensure compliance with past presentation and current U.S. GAAP requirements

     Technical Accounting Responsibilities

     

    • Prepare technical accounting memos for internal files as well as for external audit
    • Research new U.S. GAAP standards and develop and document Company policies and elections.
    • Scope the impact of new U.S. GAAP standards on the entire organization, including relevant historical transactions and investment structures
    • Document and communicate proposed changes to Company's auditors and obtain both local audit team and National office sign-off of elections where required.

    • Assist on special projects as needed as directed

    Financial Control

    • Maintain objective evidence for Sarbanes Oxley 404 compliance and assist on developing corrective actions, when required.

    Required Education

    • Undergraduate degree in Accounting required
    • CPA a plus or actively seeking
    • Big 4 Experience preferred

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of 7 years of experience in public accounting or similar experience.
    • Strong analytical and interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization.
    • Solid technical accounting knowledge, with proficiency in evaluating contingencies
    • Working knowledge of SAP preferred.
    • BCS experience a plus
    • Excellent Excel skills
    • Workiva experience a plus
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with non-accountants
    • Demonstrate understanding of US GAAP financial statement and SEC reporting
    • Demonstrated ability to work under time pressure
