    Responsible to manage the sourcing of FMC’s requirements for the Direct Materials for all North American sites, with an annual spend of approximately $70 million. This position will be responsible, together with the Global Category Managers, for the development and implementation of strategies, management of key supplier relationships, issuance of forecasts and other internal communications regarding direct materials in the pertinent categories. These categories include commodity chemicals (includes solvents, mineral salts, chloralkali products, oils, silicates), packaging (drums, bottles, pallets and other packaging materials), and functional additives. The emphasis will be on materials supplied to North America, but some categories will require cross-regional coordination, in particular those supporting the activities of the Global Direct Materials and Packaging category management teams. This position will be responsible for selecting sustainable suppliers, ensuring the suppliers maintain the necessary standards as dictated by each business’s quality and regulatory groups, negotiating contracts, managing the relationships with suppliers and their performance against contracts. This position will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships with the business stakeholders, proactively staying aligned to ensure the category strategies being driven & implemented in the region are aligned to meet their business needs and deliver the business value they expect. The position will be responsible for working collaboratively with the regional Sourcing Operations team to ensure global and regional deals are successfully implemented in the sites and work alongside the Sourcing Operations team to resolve any escalated supply issues. At times, this position will be required to assist in the sourcing of materials outside the normal scope of this category (i.e. active ingredients, contract manufacturing/tolling) as dictated by the needs of the Global Procurement Group.


    The position is located at our global headquarters in Philadelphia, PA which places incumbent adjacent a key internal customer of the categories. Expected to travel ~15% of the time with a portion potentially being international.


    • Understand FMC’s businesses and work closely with the main stakeholders to align sourcing requirements to business strategies.
    • Identify and implement savings and working capital opportunities via synergies between plants and businesses, particularly within the North American sites.
    • Work closely with Global Category managers to ensure all regional / local sourcing activities are aligned with global material and supplier strategies.
    • Develop market intelligence on supply base for the region, monitor key events that may result in a security of supply risk (natural disasters, force majeure, logistics issues, etc).
    • Develop a strong working relationship with the sites and coordinate sourcing projects and cost saving opportunities with the NA Sourcing Operations team.
    • Identify and select sustainable suppliers and coordinate the qualification process of alternate materials and sources.
    • Work with the technical function and R&D department in the potential introduction of substitute products and suppliers.
    • Coordinate with the Regulatory Department the registration process of alternate materials and suppliers. Collect the needed samples, regulatory data and technical information required for the registrations process.
    • Develop and manage supplier relationships and performance. Negotiate supply agreements and work with the Legal Department in the development, execution and maintenance of supply agreements.
    • Ensure the orders are executed efficiently which includes meeting quality standards, on-time delivery, etc.
    • Maintain accurate data of purchased materials and suppliers, making sure that all key enabling tools, such as spend performance management, Ariba, benefits tracking, contract management, etc. are properly maintained and updated.

    Required Education

    Minimum Bachelor degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other science subjects.


    • 7+ years experience in commercial or operational areas.
    • Previous experience in sourcing on a regional or global basis.
    • Previous employment with multinational companies or overseas experience in chemical or related industries, preferred.
    • Strong skills in working effectively with different functions to meet objectives. Ability to influence others, working collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
    • Strong business acumen with understanding for speed and profitability
    • Strong negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills
    • Effective project management skills, able to lead and drive sourcing projects for assigned categories, project status reporting & tracking,, follow through to drive risks and issues to resolution
