    Responsibilities

    This is an exciting role in the Remediation group for someone looking to make a change from consulting or another industry and work in a developmental role at FMC. The primary responsibility of this position is to support the project management of select remediation sites across our organization with end-to-end management.  This role will also have the opportunity to lead multi-disciplinary teams, while directing all phases of remediation projects at assigned sites.  Additionally, this role will support the business teams involved in all remediation and construction projects.

     

    The ideal candidate would be comfortable with learning quickly, being “hands-on” when needed, and comfortable shifting gears into a strategic mindset, while also being politically savvy and having the ability to work well with all levels of the organization.

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Develop and implement remedial strategies for assigned remediation sites safely and within budget.
    • Manage all projects to FMC safety standards and implement FMC’s culture of safety at all sites.
    • Select, manage and deploy multi-disciplinary teams of specialists to direct all phases of site remediation projects, including field execution and construction, decontamination, and demolition activities. 
    • Meet project budgets, prepare all necessary authorization documents for spending and cost controls.
    • Develop rigorous and dependable cost estimates. Track spending and prepare forecasts. Issue PO’s and review, approve, and process invoices.
    • Maintain files suitable for cost recovery, Sarbanes Oxley key control compliance, potential litigation, and compliance with FMC’s record retention policy.
    • Retain and manage environmental consultants, laboratories and remedial contractors.
    • Negotiate with governmental authorities the appropriate scope of work, the best alternatives for site remediation, and the level of FMC involvement at assigned remediation sites.
    • Make presentations to various stakeholders, including senior leadership, on project status, strategies, costs, progress, and new issues.
    • Visit sites to progress assigned field and laboratory programs, which are being conducted to satisfy company environmental remediation obligations.
    • Critically review and edit for accuracy, style, and content all reports, correspondence, field records, etc. that are prepared to document remediation project work.
    • Maintain a complete project file on assigned remediation projects.
    • Identify emerging issues and trends on remediation project work and communicate relevant matters with the appropriate audience.
    • Effectively communicate with management, other department members, and outside contractors on a variety of matters, including project status and other issues

    Required Education

    • BS in Engineering, Natural Science, or related field.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications:

    • Demonstrated success in managing remedial projects.
      • 1-2 years of experience in waste water management and/or demolition projects a plus.
      • Experience in a plant environment, preferred.
    • Experience in developing project proposals or plans to determine time-frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of the project.
    • Limited or recent experience overseeing technical and organizational management and financial aspects of projects.
    • Proven ability to coordinate and oversee safe field execution, construction, decontamination and demolition activities
    • Maintenance of a significant level of knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies.
    • Demonstrated use of independent and practical judgment and ability to make data-driven decisions within context of defined processes.
    • Demonstrated commitment to FMC’s core value of safety.

     

    Grade A:

    • Minimum of 5+ years of environmental engineering and/or project management experience with at least 1 year of working with federal or state environmental agencies on remediation issues resulting in a sound understanding of USEPA and state agency policies and procedures, patterns of agency action and non-action, and typical responses.

     

    Grade B:

    • Minimum of 8+ years of environmental engineering and/or project management experience with at least 1 year of working with federal or state environmental agencies on remediation issues resulting in a sound understanding of USEPA and state agency policies and procedures, patterns of agency action and non-action, and typical responses.
