FMC is looking for a Global R&D Scientist to work in the Herbicide Discovery Biology group at our Stine research facility in Newark, Delaware. The mission of the Herbicide Discovery group is to discover new herbicide active ingredients qualified for commercial development. Global R&D Scientist identifies, assesses and develops new scientific concepts and/or technologies to provide solutions to identified problems. He/she manages technical projects, coordinating with other professionals across varying disciplines and support personnel to accomplish objectives. He/she defines scientific approach to problems, develops hypotheses, tests them to lead projects to logical conclusions.
The Global R&D Scientist provides strong biological technical results and leadership to Herbicide Discovery process. The Herbicide Discovery Global R&D Scientist generates extensive biological results through a series of tiered screens and special tests, interprets and reports the results and works closely with synthesis chemists, biochemists and environmental scientists in a team environment to optimize lead area chemistry. Development, validation and implementation of new screens also compliments these activities.
The successful Global R&D Scientist should have a good understanding of current and evolving weed control practices in multiple market regions and crops and will apply this knowledge to the assessment of new herbicide active ingredients. They will generate greenhouse and field biological results and integrate this information with mode of action, environmental fate, crop and weed metabolism and other topics generated by others on the team to discover superior new product candidates. The position calls for active networking with FMC regional field development specialists and marketing teams as well as strong interactions with the academic weed/crop science communities.
Ph.D in a relevant scientific area such as Weed Science, Agronomy, or Plant Physiology with 4-5 years agronomic experience.
