Overview

The sustainability environmental engineer will report to the global sustainability director. This position will serve as the environmental subject matter expert (SME) and be responsible for technical data gathering, analysis and application. This role will also serve to support business functions as they integrate sustainability into their core activities such as technical center efficiency initiatives, capital deployment, procurement and supplier engagement.  

 

Responsibilities

  • Lead the sustainability environmental data management process, including the software data collection system and maintenance of the system through the software vendor, as well as collaborating with site personnel and operations to ensure accuracy of the metrics.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders in order to identify, prioritize and implement sustainability related initiatives to reduce overall environmental footprint. Areas of focus include greenhouse gases (GHG), energy use, water use and waste generation.
  • Lead cross functional team to develop and implement a comprehensive renewable energy strategy.
  • Monitor industry best practices in strategy and resource efficiency coupled with a strong curiosity for continuous improvement.
  • Report on environmental metric and highlight the programs that drive the results.
  • Baseline scope 3 emissions and develop a reduction strategy aligned with overall climate change goals.

Required Education

  • Engineering degree with preference focus on chemical, environmental or sustainability.
  • Master’s degree a plus.

Qualifications

  • At least 5 - 7 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within the chemical industry leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience in environmental efficiency initiatives, energy management and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) assessments.
  • Extensive project management experience,
  • Competent computer skills (Microsoft Office, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to read and analyze complex data.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and written, and explain technical concepts or innovations to technical and non-technical employees.
  • Approximately 10% travel required
